Aksiaalipiston

Aksiaalipiston is a Finnish term that translates to "axial piston" in English. It refers to a specific type of positive displacement pump or motor. The defining characteristic of an axial piston machine is its arrangement of pistons, which reciprocate parallel to the axis of a drive shaft.

In an axial piston pump, the pistons are typically arranged in a cylinder block that rotates. The angled face of a swashplate or a bent axis design causes the pistons to move in and out of their bores as the cylinder block rotates. This reciprocating motion displaces fluid, creating flow. The amount of fluid displaced, and thus the flow rate or torque output, is controlled by the angle of the swashplate or the degree of the bent axis.

Axial piston motors operate on the same principle but in reverse. Fluid pressure acts on the pistons, causing the cylinder block to rotate and, in turn, drive the output shaft.

These machines are known for their high efficiency, compact size, and ability to operate under high pressures. They are commonly used in applications requiring precise control of flow and pressure, such as in hydraulic systems for construction equipment, agricultural machinery, industrial automation, and aerospace.
