Akreditim

Akreditim is a Turkish term that most often appears as the possessive form of the noun akredit and is used to mean “my accreditation” in everyday language. The standard term for formal recognition of competence is akreditasyon. The concept, known in many languages as accreditation, refers to official recognition by a competent authority that an organization, program, or individual meets defined standards and is competent to perform specific tasks.

Accreditation applies across multiple sectors, including laboratories, certification bodies, educational programs, and other conformity assessment activities. It serves to verify competence, impartiality, and consistency, thereby increasing trust in test results, certifications, and assessments issued by accredited entities. Accreditation is not the same as licensing or certification of individuals; rather, it is a formal, ongoing recognition of the processes and competences of an organization or program.

The process typically involves submitting an application to a national or international accreditation body, providing documentation of methods and quality systems, and undergoing an on-site evaluation. If requirements are met, the body is granted accreditation and must maintain continuous conformity through periodic surveillance and re-assessment. Standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 for testing laboratories or ISO/IEC 17065 for product certification commonly frame these evaluations.

In Turkey, the national accreditation body is TÜRKAK (Türkiye Akreditasyon Kurumu). Internationally, accreditation systems cooperate through ILAC and IAF to harmonize criteria and judgments, supporting mutual recognition of accredited bodies across borders.
