Akhannouch

Aziz Akhannouch is a Moroccan businessman and politician who has served as Prime Minister of Morocco since 2021. He is the founder and longtime leader of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), a center-right political party that has played a major role in Moroccan politics in the 2010s and 2020s.

Born in 1961, Akhannouch studied economics and management and built a large business empire through the Akwa Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests in energy distribution, agriculture, and chemicals. The group is best known for Afriquia, a leading network of fuel stations and related services. Through Akwa, he became one of Morocco's most prominent and wealthiest business figures.

Political career: Akhannouch founded and chairs the RNI. Following the 2021 parliamentary elections, the party won the largest share of seats, and King Mohammed VI tasked him with forming a government. He led a multi-party coalition that took office in late 2021. His premiership has focused on economic recovery after the pandemic, investment promotion, social development programs, and reforms intended to improve growth and employment, while navigating coalition politics and regional considerations.

Personal life: Akhannouch is married and has children. Beyond business and politics, he has supported philanthropic and regional development initiatives and is a regular participant in public debates on Morocco's economic and social policy.
