Aistijärjestelmiin

Aistijärjestelmiin refers to the various sensory systems that enable organisms and devices to perceive their surroundings. In biological contexts, aistijärjestelmät encompass the five classical senses—vision, hearing, taste, smell, and touch—but modern neurobiology recognizes a broader range, including vestibular (balance), proprioceptive (body position), nociceptive (pain), and thermoception (temperature). Each system comprises sensory receptors that transduce physical stimuli into electrical signals, which are then transmitted via peripheral nerves to specialized processing centers in the central nervous system.

Understanding both natural and artificial sensory systems provides insight into how life and technology interpret information. Advances in neuroimaging, computational neuroscience, and sensor design continue to blur the lines between biological perception and engineered perception, opening new possibilities for medical prosthetics, human–machine interfaces, and complex adaptive systems.
