These disorders can be broadly categorized. Inborn errors of metabolism are genetic conditions inherited from parents that affect specific enzymes or proteins involved in metabolic pathways. Examples include phenylketonuria (PKU), galactosemia, and various lysosomal storage diseases. Acquired metabolic disorders, on the other hand, develop later in life due to factors like diet, lifestyle, organ damage, or other diseases. Diabetes mellitus is a common example of an acquired metabolic disorder affecting glucose regulation.
