Agreementconsent is a term used to describe the process and state of mutual assent by parties to the terms of an agreement. In contract law, assent (or consent) is a fundamental element for the formation of a valid contract, alongside offer, acceptance, and consideration. Agreementconsent covers both agreement to the contract as a whole and consent to its individual provisions, including terms, conditions, and, where relevant, data processing or handling rules. A genuine agreementconsent requires that parties have the capacity to contract, understand the terms, and act without improper pressure.

In contemporary practice, agreementconsent is a central concern in online contracts, privacy notices, and service agreements. Digital interfaces such as clickwrap require users to affirmatively indicate acceptance, while browsewrap arrangements attempt to bind users by continued use without explicit assent. Legal regimes, notably data protection laws, demand that consent be informed, voluntary, specific, and unambiguous; some contexts require explicit consent for sensitive data. Organizations are also expected to provide clear notices, keep records of consent, and honor revocation.

Types of consent include explicit consent and implicit or inferred consent, with varying evidentiary standards. Consent management platforms and audit trails are increasingly used to document and manage consent across services. Critics argue that many consent mechanisms are opaque or coercive and that consent alone may not ensure meaningful control over personal data or contract terms.
