AfroTrinidadians
AfroTrinidadians are Trinidadians and Tobagonians of Sub-Saharan African ancestry. Their presence in Trinidad and Tobago is largely a result of the transatlantic slave trade, which forcibly brought Africans to the islands to work on sugar plantations. Following the abolition of slavery in 1838, indentured laborers from other parts of the world, including India, were brought to the islands, altering the demographic landscape. Despite this, the African cultural influence has remained a dominant and vibrant force.
