Africasuchus

Africasuchus is an extinct genus of crocodyliform that lived during the Late Cretaceous period in what is now Egypt. The name Africasuchus means "African crocodile." Fossils of Africasuchus have been found in the Bahariya Formation. This formation is renowned for yielding fossils of other iconic dinosaurs and prehistoric animals, making Africasuchus a part of a rich paleontological record.

The classification of Africasuchus has been subject to some debate among paleontologists. It is generally considered to be a member of the Notosuchia, a diverse group of crocodylomorphs that are characterized by their terrestrial adaptations. However, its precise phylogenetic position within Notosuchia has been challenging to determine due to the fragmentary nature of the fossil material.

Africasuchus is known from limited remains, primarily parts of the skull and postcranial skeleton. These remains suggest that it was a medium-sized crocodyliform, likely adapted for a semi-aquatic or terrestrial lifestyle. Its discovery in North Africa contributes to our understanding of the distribution and diversity of crocodyliforms in Gondwana during the Mesozoic Era.
