Aethelbald
Aethelbald was King of Mercia from 716 to 757 AD. He was the son of King Aethelred. Aethelbald's reign was one of the longest and most significant in Mercian history. He expanded Mercian influence considerably, bringing much of southern England under his control. His authority was recognized by many other Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, and he held the title of Bretwalda, a designation indicating his dominance over other rulers.
