Aeglasi

Aeglasi is a fictional language created for worldbuilding in speculative fiction. It is described as a synthetic, agglutinative language used by the Aegla people in the high plateau region of the fictional continent of Valara. The language has multiple dialects and a long-standing tradition of linguistic study within the setting.

Linguistic features: Aeglasi generally follows a subject–object–verb word order. It employs suffixal morphology with noun inflection for number and case; verbs encode tense, aspect, mood, and agreement with the subject. Adjectives typically precede nouns and do not inflect. Determiners are optional, and demonstratives are common.

Phonology and orthography: Aeglasi has five vowels and a consonant inventory of about eighteen letters, including p, t, k, m, n, l, r, s, v, h, g, w, and y. The language uses a Latin-based alphabet and a phonemic orthography; stress is typically on the penultimate syllable. There are no tonal contrasts in most described variants.

Writing, history, and usage: In the fiction, Aeglasi is taught in schools, used in liturgy, literature, and administration, and features ceremonial registers. In contemporary fan communities, it is studied and expanded through collaborative conlang projects. In-universe, its origin traces back several millennia to periods such as the Great Migration and the era of the Sage Kings.
