Advar is a fictional city and provincial capital in the fantasy realm of Eldoria. It lies in the eastern reaches of Varis, near the Serin River, and functions as a regional center for administration, trade, and culture.

The city sits on a river bend, protected by a low limestone escarpment. The surrounding countryside is riverine plains with orchards and timber stands. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers.

History: Founded in the 9th century by Var merchants, Advar grew through river trade. A stone fortress was erected in the 12th century, and the city was twice sacked during the War of the Broken Pact before being rebuilt under the Varis charter.

Governance: Advar is the capital of Varis Province and is governed by a mayor-council system. The twelve-member council oversees departments of security, urban planning, culture, and education.

Economy: The economy centers on river trade, timber, textiles, and shipbuilding. The Blue Market district hosts crafts, spices, and afloat businesses, while mills and small workshops support neighboring rural communities.

Demographics and culture: The population is mainly humans, with minority elven and dwarven communities in older quarters. Advaric is the dominant local language, spoken alongside Common. Cultural life centers on the Harvest Lantern festival and annual river regattas.

Etymology: The name Advar is thought to derive from the Advaric word adar, meaning ford, reflecting the city’s heritage as a river crossing.
