Adresconflicten, also known as address conflict, is a situation that occurs when two or more devices on a network attempt to use the same IP address simultaneously. This conflict can disrupt network communication and cause connectivity issues. Address conflicts typically arise from one of two scenarios: manual configuration of IP addresses or dynamic IP address assignment using protocols like DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol).

When a device is manually configured with an IP address that is already in use by another device, an address conflict occurs. This is a common issue in small networks where administrators or users manually set IP addresses. The conflict is detected when the devices attempt to communicate, as each device will respond to network traffic intended for the shared IP address, leading to data corruption or loss.

In networks using DHCP, address conflicts can occur if the DHCP server assigns the same IP address to multiple devices within the same subnet. This is less common but can happen if the DHCP server's lease database is corrupted or if the network experiences high traffic, causing the server to assign addresses before it has fully released previous leases.

To resolve address conflicts, network administrators can take several steps. For manually configured devices, they can change the IP address of one of the conflicting devices to a unique address. In DHCP environments, administrators can reset the DHCP server, clear its lease database, or extend the lease duration to reduce the likelihood of conflicts. Regular network monitoring and maintenance can also help prevent address conflicts by identifying and addressing configuration errors early.

Address conflicts are a preventable issue that can be managed through proper network planning, configuration, and maintenance. Understanding the causes and effects of address conflicts is crucial for network administrators to ensure smooth and reliable network operation.
