This term is derived from combining "adult" and "immature," highlighting the partial development of adult traits while the organism remains biologically immature.

The most well-known examples of admature behavior occur in some species of ants, such as *Camponotus* (carpenter ants) and *Formica* (wood ants). In these species, certain workers may develop reproductive structures, such as functional ovaries, before completing their full growth.
