Adessiivimuotona
Adessiivimuotona is the grammatical case used in Finnish and several other Uralic languages to denote a spatial relationship analogous to the English preposition “at” or “on”. It signals that a noun is in contact with or situated upon a particular location. In Finnish the adessive case is expressed by appending the suffix –n, –ssä, –ssä, –in, or –ssä depending on vowel harmony and consonant gradation. For example, the word koti “home” becomes kotissa in the adessive, meaning “at home”. Similarly, kassa “cash register” becomes kassassa, indicating a position on or in the register.
