Acunungan

Acunungan is a municipality in the province of Lanao del Sur, Philippines. It is located in the first congressional district of the province. The town has a total land area of 417.11 square kilometers and is situated approximately 56 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital, Marawi City.

As of the 2020 census, the population of Acunungan is approximately 21,931, making it one of the smallest municipalities in the province. The majority of its population is Muslim, with the remaining inhabitants identifying as Christians.

The town is dominated by the Maranao people, who are known for their rich cultural heritage and traditions. Acunungan's local language, which is also spoken in other parts of Lanao del Sur, is a variant of the Maranao language. The town is also home to several autoaba and distticoms, which are important geographical and cultural features of the local community.

The local economy of Acunungan is primarily based on agriculture and aquaculture. The town's proximity to Lake Lanao and its vast fertile plains makes it an ideal place for farming and fishing. Rice is the main crop grown in the area, followed by vegetables and fruits. Acunungan also has a significant number of small-scale fishponds, which supply fresh fish to the local market.

The town has a relatively underdeveloped infrastructure, with limited access to electricity, water, and communication. However, efforts are being made to upgrade the town's facilities and services, including the establishment of a satellite office of the Philippine Postal Corporation and the expansion of the internet network.
