Acidets

Acidets is a term that lacks a single, universally accepted definition, and it is used in different contexts to denote small or transient acidic entities. In theoretical chemistry and physical chemistry, acidets may refer to proposed short-lived protonated clusters or molecular fragments that arise under strong acid–solvent interactions or at interfaces. These species are postulated as possible intermediates that could participate in rapid proton transfer or catalytic processes. Their existence is inferred indirectly through advanced spectroscopic techniques, kinetic measurements, and computational simulations, as they are typically too unstable to isolate.

In some discussions within materials science or electrochemistry, acidets are used informally to describe localized regions of high acidity at the surface of catalysts or electrode interfaces, where proton activity is temporarily enhanced.

In literature and speculative fiction, acidets appear as fictional microscopic organisms or sentient entities tied to acidity, sometimes portrayed as altering chemical environments or enabling novel reactions.
