Acellulárních is a Czech term that translates to "acellular" in English. In biology, the term acellular refers to something that is not composed of cells. This can apply to various entities, from viruses and prions to certain biological structures and processes.

Viruses are a prime example of acellular entities. They are not considered living organisms because they lack the cellular machinery necessary for independent reproduction and metabolism. Viruses consist of genetic material (DNA or RNA) enclosed in a protein coat called a capsid. They can only replicate by infecting host cells and hijacking their cellular processes.

Prions are another type of acellular agent. They are misfolded proteins that can induce conformational changes in normal proteins of the same type, leading to a cascade of misfolding and aggregation. Prions are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease) in cattle.

Beyond viruses and prions, the concept of acellular can also describe structures or phenomena that are not organized into cells. For instance, some extracellular matrices, which are complex networks of molecules outside of cells, can be considered acellular in their composition. Similarly, certain biochemical reactions or molecular assemblies occurring outside of a cellular context can be described as acellular processes. The distinction between cellular and acellular is fundamental to understanding the organization and behavior of biological systems.
