Absorvidos

Absorvidos is the masculine plural past participle of the verb absorver. Derived from the Latin absorbere, in Portuguese it functions primarily as an adjective, agreeing with the noun it describes, and can also appear in passive voice constructions. The term denotes the state of having absorbed something, whether a substance, energy, or information, or simply being immersed in an activity.

In everyday use, absorvidos describes people who are mentally focused, as in a sentence like "Ele ficou absorvido pela leitura." In scientific or technical contexts, it refers to absorption phenomena: energy absorbed by a material; substances absorbed by a solvent; water absorbed by soil. In biology and pharmacology, it pertains to substances that are absorbed by an organism or tissues, with related terms such as the absorbed amount and the rate of absorption. In management or corporate contexts, the word can describe the assimilation of workers or assets by a company after an acquisition, for example "os trabalhadores foram absorvidos pela nova subsidiária."

The form absorvidos thus accommodates both literal and figurative meanings, and its use depends on the gender and number of the noun it modifies. It remains a common part of Brazilian Portuguese and is understood in European Portuguese with the same broad applications.
