Absorbsioonjahutust, also known as absorption refrigeration, is a method of cooling that uses a heat source to drive the refrigeration cycle. Unlike traditional vapor-compression refrigeration, absorption refrigeration does not rely on mechanical compressors. Instead, it uses a liquid refrigerant and an absorbent to create the cooling effect.

The basic principle of absorption refrigeration involves the absorption of refrigerant vapor by a liquid absorbent, which is then desorbed by applying heat. This process creates a cycle where the refrigerant is alternately absorbed and desorbed, facilitating the transfer of heat from a low-temperature space to a higher-temperature space.

The key components of an absorption refrigeration system include the generator, condenser, absorber, and evaporator. The generator is where the refrigerant is desorbed from the absorbent by applying heat. The condenser then cools the refrigerant vapor, converting it back into a liquid. The absorber is where the refrigerant is absorbed back into the absorbent, and the evaporator is where the refrigerant absorbs heat from the space to be cooled, creating the cooling effect.

Absorption refrigeration systems are often used in large-scale applications such as industrial processes, district heating systems, and marine applications. They are particularly suitable for situations where a reliable heat source is available, such as waste heat from industrial processes or solar energy.

One of the advantages of absorption refrigeration is its ability to operate with a wide range of heat sources, making it a versatile option for various applications. Additionally, absorption systems can provide reliable and continuous cooling without the need for frequent maintenance of mechanical compressors. However, they may have lower coefficient of performance (COP) compared to vapor-compression systems, which can result in higher energy consumption.
