ARPscan

ARPScan is a network scanning tool designed to discover hosts on a local network using the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP). Developed by Roy Hills, ARPScan sends ARP requests to IP addresses within a specified range and records the responses to identify active devices. The tool is particularly useful for network administrators who need to map out network infrastructure or detect unauthorized devices.

The software operates by sending ARP packets to each IP address in a defined range and listening for responses. When a device responds, ARPScan records its IP address, MAC address, and manufacturer information based on the MAC address's Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI). This information can be exported to various formats including CSV, XML, and plain text.
