APDtyyppejä refers to different types of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent patterns of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interfere with functioning or development.

Historically, and still commonly discussed, are three main presentations or subtypes of ADHD. The first is the predominantly inattentive presentation. Individuals with this type primarily struggle with focus, organization, and task completion. They may appear forgetful, easily distracted, and have difficulty following instructions or completing tasks, but may not exhibit significant hyperactive or impulsive behaviors.

The second type is the predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation. This presentation is marked by excessive physical activity, restlessness, and difficulty controlling impulses. Individuals may fidget, talk excessively, interrupt others, and act without thinking, often struggling to sit still or engage in quiet activities.

The third presentation is the combined presentation. This type encompasses significant symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. Individuals with the combined type will exhibit a mix of difficulties in focusing, organizing, and managing their attention, alongside prominent restless and impulsive behaviors.

It's important to note that diagnostic criteria have evolved, and the current DSM-5 uses the term "presentations" rather than "subtypes" to reflect that an individual's symptom presentation can change over time. An individual might meet criteria for one presentation at one point and a different one later in life. This distinction helps to better understand the varying ways ADHD can manifest in individuals.
