APCtyyppien refers to the range of armored personnel carrier (APC) types. An APC is a wheeled or tracked vehicle designed primarily to transport infantry to and from the battlefield while providing protection against small arms fire and shell fragments. Unlike infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), most APCs are not intended to fight from the vehicle with heavy armament; when equipped, it is typically with light machine guns or a small grenade launcher and sometimes a remotely operated weapon station.

Design characteristics common to APC types include a crew compartment for passengers separated from the drive system, standard seating for infantry, and armor that balances protection with mobility. APCs are often equipped with features such as escape hatches, NBC protection, and amphibious capability in some models. Armament, armor level, and propulsion vary by design, reflecting intended roles, whether rapid transport, rear-area security, or support in mixed-operation environments. Armor levels are commonly described by standardized scales (for example, protection against specific small arms and shrapnel) and can be supplemented with modular armor or active protection systems in modern variants.

Classification typically divides APC types into wheeled and tracked categories, with additional distinctions by vehicle size and troop capacity. Notable examples include the tracked M113 series and the wheeled BTR family, as well as contemporary wheeled APCs like the Patria AMV and the Stryker.
