ACKpaketteja is a Finnish term that translates to "acknowledgment packets" in English. In the context of computer networking, an ACK packet is a type of control message used in reliable data transmission protocols, most notably the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). When a sender transmits data, the recipient, upon successfully receiving the data, sends back an ACK packet to confirm receipt. This acknowledgment mechanism is crucial for ensuring that data arrives without errors and in the correct order.

The primary purpose of an ACK packet is to provide feedback to the sender about the status of data transmission. If a sender does not receive an ACK packet within a certain timeframe for a transmitted data segment, it assumes that the data was lost or corrupted and will retransmit it.
