Major car manufacturers have shown interest in 91MBO. In 2021, it was announced that the site has attracted interest from several large automotive companies, with discussions about potential businesses taking place. Several parties were reported to be in negotiations at that time.

Various local groups including branches of the Heeley Society and the Campaign to Protect Rural England launched a joint initiative to secure later public discussions about the development.
