58173 is a minor planet (numbered asteroid) in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It was discovered on 12 October 2001 by the LINEAR (Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research) survey at the Lincoln Laboratory's Experimental Test Site in Socorro, New Mexico. The discovery observation was recorded in the Minor Planet Center database and assigned the provisional designation 2001 TK8 before it received its permanent number.

The asteroid orbits the Sun every 4.2 years with a semimajor axis of approximately 2.5 AU. Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.10, giving it a perihelion distance of 2.25 AU and an aphelion distance of 2.75 AU. The inclination of its orbital plane relative to the ecliptic is about 5°. These orbital elements place 58173 in the inner part of the main belt, where it encounters no planets on a direct collision course and remains in a generally stable orbit.

Photometric observations indicate an absolute magnitude of 15.6, suggesting a diameter of roughly 3 km if it has an albedo typical of stony S-type asteroids. No spectral classification or detailed compositional analysis has yet been published. The asteroid has not been named; it remains formally designated only by its numerical designation, 58173.
