It was first observed on 24 February 2011 by the Pan‑STARRS 1 survey at the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System facility near Haleakala, Maui. The asteroid was subsequently assigned the provisional designation 2011 AB123 before receiving its permanent number.

Observations from the Minor Planet Center list 18731932 orbiting the Sun with a semi‑major axis of approximately 3.7 astronomical units, an eccentricity of 0.15, and an inclination of 5.8 degrees relative to the ecliptic. Its orbital period is roughly 7.1 Earth years. Photometric measurements performed by the Lowell Observatory suggest a diameter of about 4.5 kilometres, assuming an albedo of 0.12.

The asteroid has not yet been given a formal name, and its discovery circumstances match the typical pattern for objects in the outer Main Belt: a small, dark body likely composed of silicate‑rich material. 18731932's orbit keeps it well inside the region where Jupiter‑family comets intersect the Main Belt, and it does not pose any known impact threat to Earth.
