An äänisignaaliketju, or audio signal chain, refers to the sequence of electronic components through which an audio signal passes from its source to its final output. This chain is fundamental to audio recording, reproduction, and live sound reinforcement.

The process begins with an audio source, which could be a microphone capturing acoustic sound, an instrument's pickup, a digital audio file, or a radio broadcast. This initial signal is often weak and may require amplification. The first component in the chain is typically a preamplifier (preamp), which boosts the signal to a usable line level.

Following the preamp, the signal might pass through various signal processing units. These can include equalizers (EQ) for tone shaping, compressors to manage dynamic range, effects processors for reverb or delay, and noise gates to reduce unwanted background noise. Each of these devices modifies the audio signal in a specific way.

After processing, the signal usually enters a power amplifier. This component significantly increases the signal's power to drive loudspeakers or headphones, which are the final output devices. The loudspeakers convert the electrical audio signal back into acoustic sound waves that can be heard. In a digital audio signal chain, the signal might undergo analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) at the source and digital-to-analog conversion (DAC) before the output stage. The overall quality of the audio reproduction is heavily dependent on the performance and interaction of each component within the äänisignaaliketju.
