"Üledékképződés" is the Hungarian term for sedimentation or deposition. It refers to the geological process where particles suspended in a fluid, such as water or air, settle out and accumulate over time. These particles can be sand, silt, clay, organic matter, or even chemical precipitates. The process is driven by gravity, which causes denser particles to sink.

Sedimentation plays a crucial role in the formation of sedimentary rocks. As layers of sediment accumulate, the weight of the overlying material compacts the lower layers. Over geological time, this compaction, along with cementation (where minerals precipitate from groundwater and bind the sediment grains together), transforms loose sediment into solid rock. Examples include sandstone, shale, and limestone.

The rate and type of sedimentation are influenced by various factors, including the energy of the fluid (e.g., fast-flowing rivers deposit coarser material than slow-moving ones), the availability of sediment, and the presence of biological activity. Environments where sedimentation commonly occurs include riverbeds, lake bottoms, ocean floors, and deltas. Understanding sedimentation is vital for fields such as geology, hydrology, and environmental science, as it helps in interpreting Earth's history, managing water resources, and assessing environmental changes.
