Úszókapcsolók, often translated as float switches, are electrical devices used to detect the level of a liquid in a tank or container. They operate on a simple principle: a buoyant element, typically a ball or a float, rises or falls with the liquid level. This movement is mechanically linked to a switch, which then opens or closes an electrical circuit.

There are several types of úszókapcsolók. The most common is the mercury tilt switch, where the float moves a capsule containing mercury, causing it to tilt and make or break contact. However, due to environmental concerns, mercury-free versions using reed switches or microswitches are increasingly popular. In these designs, the float contains a magnet that activates the switch as it moves.

Úszókapcsolók find widespread application in various industries and domestic settings. They are essential in sump pumps to prevent flooding, in boilers to maintain water levels, and in water treatment plants for controlling pumping operations. They can be configured to signal a high level, a low level, or both.

The installation of an úszókapcsoló is generally straightforward, but proper placement is crucial for accurate operation. They are typically mounted on the side of a tank or suspended by a cable. Their reliability, simplicity, and cost-effectiveness make them a preferred choice for many liquid level monitoring and control applications.
