Öljyluokitus refers to the classification or grading of oils, typically in the context of lubricants. This system helps consumers and professionals understand the properties and suitability of different oils for specific applications. In Finland, as in many other countries, oil classifications are often based on international standards.

One of the most common classification systems for engine oils is the SAE viscosity grade, developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers. This grade indicates an oil's thickness or flow characteristics at different temperatures. For example, a 5W-30 oil has a lower viscosity at cold temperatures (the "W" stands for winter) than a 10W-40 oil, making it suitable for colder climates.

These classifications denote the oil's ability to protect against wear, sludge, and other forms of degradation, as well as its fuel efficiency properties.
