évközi

Évközi is a Hungarian adjective formed from év (year) and köz (between/among). It generally means occurring within a year or in the course of the year. In everyday language it describes events, processes, or records that take place during the year rather than on a single fixed date. Depending on context, it can translate as in-year, mid-year, or annual in a broad sense, but often conveys ongoing activity through the year rather than a one-off occasion.

In organizational or administrative language, évközi is used in compounds such as évközi közgyűlés or évközi beszámoló to denote actions or reports that apply to the current financial or calendar year rather than to a single event. These usages are common in Hungarian law, business, and public administration.

In religious contexts, particularly within the Catholic Hungarian vocabulary, évközi idő refers to the liturgical period known in English as Ordinary Time. This spans the weeks outside the major seasons of Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter, and is divided into two blocks. Évközi idő is the longest season of the liturgical year, emphasizing the ordinary rhythm of Sundays and weekdays without special feast days.
