Ethmoidalis is a term derived from the ethmoid bone, a complex bone located in the skull that separates the nasal cavity from the brain. When used in an anatomical or medical context, ethmoidalis typically refers to structures or conditions associated with this bone.

The ethmoid bone itself is perforated by numerous small openings, forming the cribriform plate, which allows olfactory nerves to pass from the nasal cavity to the olfactory bulb in the brain. This anatomical arrangement is crucial for the sense of smell.

Conditions involving the ethmoid bone can include ethmoiditis, which is inflammation of the ethmoid sinuses, a group of air-filled cavities within the ethmoid bone. This inflammation is usually a consequence of sinusitis and can cause symptoms such as nasal congestion, facial pain, and pressure around the eyes.

Fractures of the ethmoid bone are also possible, often resulting from significant head trauma. Such fractures can lead to complications like cerebrospinal fluid leakage into the nasal cavity or damage to the olfactory nerves, impairing the sense of smell.
