Äänentoistimet, also known as loudspeakers or speakers, are electroacoustic transducers that convert electrical audio signals into sound waves. They are a fundamental component of any audio system, enabling us to hear music, speech, and other audio content. The basic principle involves an electrical current passing through a voice coil, which is typically attached to a diaphragm or cone. This coil is situated within a magnetic field. As the electrical signal fluctuates, it causes the voice coil to move back and forth, which in turn causes the attached diaphragm to vibrate. These vibrations displace the surrounding air, creating pressure waves that our ears perceive as sound.

There are various types of äänentoistimet, categorized by their design and the frequency ranges they are intended to reproduce. Common types include dynamic loudspeakers, which use the electromagnetic principle described above, and electrostatic loudspeakers, which utilize electrostatic forces to move a thin membrane.
