The Estonian Business Register (Äriregister) is a public database that contains information about all registered companies and their branches operating in Estonia. It is maintained by the Estonian Ministry of Justice. Registration is a mandatory process for most businesses seeking to operate legally within the country.

When a new company is established or a branch of a foreign company is opened in Estonia, it must be registered in the Äriregistrimaks. This registration process involves submitting an application and paying a state fee. The amount of this fee is determined by legislation and is subject to change. Currently, the basic registration fee for founding a private limited company (OÜ) or a public limited company (AS) is a fixed amount. The fee helps to cover the administrative costs associated with maintaining the register and ensuring the accuracy of the information it holds.

The Äriregister provides transparency and facilitates business transactions by making key information about companies publicly accessible. This includes details such as company names, registration codes, legal forms, registered addresses, and information about management and ownership structures. Companies are also required to keep their registered information up-to-date, and amendments to company details, such as changes in management or address, also incur a registration fee.
