Állapotcsoportok, in English often translated as "state groups" or "status groups," is a term used in sociology and political science to describe the hierarchical stratification of society based on prestige, social honor, and lifestyle. Unlike class, which is primarily determined by economic factors, condition groups are concerned with social standing and recognition. Max Weber's concept of status groups is a foundational element in understanding this sociological phenomenon.

Individuals within the same condition group tend to share a similar lifestyle, consumption patterns, and social expectations. This shared way of life fosters a sense of belonging and solidarity among members, while simultaneously creating social distance from those in different condition groups. Membership in a condition group is often acquired through birth, but it can also be influenced by education, occupation, and social connections.

The boundaries between condition groups can be fluid and vary across different societies and historical periods. Social mobility, both upward and downward, is possible, although it may be constrained by the strong sense of group identity and the tendency for members to marry within their own condition group. Understanding condition groups helps explain social inequalities that are not solely rooted in economic disparities, highlighting the importance of honor, prestige, and social differentiation in shaping societal structures.
