Þjálfi

Þjálfi is a figure in Norse mythology, primarily known for his role as a servant and companion to the thunder god Thor. He is a mortal human, often depicted as a young boy, who demonstrates exceptional speed. His story is most prominently featured in the Prose Edda, specifically in the mythological accounts of Thor's journey to Utgard.

During this journey, Þjálfi accompanies Thor and Loki. He participates in various contests and trials set by the giants of Utgard-Loki. Despite his small stature, Þjálfi's speed proves to be a significant asset. He is tasked with carrying a sack, which is revealed to be the source of a giant's power through the magic of a mountain. He also competes in a race against Hugi, who represents thought, a contest he cannot win.

Þjálfi's connection to Thor is one of loyalty and servitude. He is described as having been healed and taken into Thor's service after Thor accidentally killed him and his sister, Þrúðr, by striking them with his hammer Mjölnir. His willingness to follow Thor on dangerous adventures, even when facing formidable giants, highlights his bravery and devotion. He is a recurring character in Thor's exploits, often acting as a loyal attendant.
