Ülekandevõrkudesse

Ülekandevõrkudesse is Estonian for actions or processes that involve connecting to or injecting into a transmission network. In practice, the term is used in the energy and communications sectors to describe delivering electricity or data into the core transmission backbone from a generation unit, a consumer, or an interface point. The phrase emphasises the interface with the high-capacity network rather than the distribution level.

In electricity systems, the transmission network (ülekandevõrk) is the high-voltage backbone that carries bulk power from generators to distribution networks and interconnections with neighboring systems. Its main duties are to transmit electricity over long distances, balance supply and demand in real time, maintain system frequency and voltage, and provide interconnections for cross-border trade. Transmission networks are operated by a transmission system operator (TSO), which coordinates outages, planning, and real-time security.

Connecting to the transmission network requires adherence to technical requirements and regulatory procedures. Utilities, generators, and other market participants normally sign connection agreements, comply with grid codes, and pay tariffs for the use of the network. Planning and expansion are guided by system adequacy studies, capacity forecasts, and cross-border coordination to ensure reliability and market efficiency.

Regulatory frameworks aim to ensure non-discriminatory access, transparent pricing, and secure operation of the network. As energy systems integrate more renewable sources and cross-border flows increase, the role of Ülekandevõrkudesse in enabling reliable, efficient transmission becomes increasingly central.
