Übermaßlaufbuchsen

Übermaßlaufbuchsen, also known as over-sized or rebore cylinder liners, are specialized components used in internal combustion engines. They are designed to repair or recondition worn engine cylinders that have exceeded their standard machining limits. When a cylinder bore becomes too large due to wear, scoring, or previous overhauls, standard replacement pistons and rings will no longer provide a proper seal. Übermaßlaufbuchsen offer a solution by being manufactured to a larger diameter than the original cylinder bore.

The process of using Übermaßlaufbuchsen typically involves boring out the existing cylinder to a precise diameter that will accommodate the larger liner. This new liner is then pressed or shrunk into the cylinder block. Once installed, the Übermaßlaufbuchse is honed to the exact size required for the corresponding over-sized piston. This ensures a tight and efficient seal between the piston rings and the cylinder wall, restoring the engine's compression and performance.

Übermaßlaufbuchsen are commonly made from cast iron, similar to standard liners, and are available in various over-sizes to suit different degrees of wear. Their application is particularly prevalent in heavy-duty diesel engines and in situations where complete engine block replacement is not feasible or economical. The use of Übermaßlaufbuchsen extends the service life of an engine and provides a cost-effective alternative to re-sleeving with standard-sized liners or replacing the entire engine block.
