Überholregeln
Überholregeln, or overtaking rules, are fundamental traffic regulations designed to ensure the safe passage of one vehicle past another. In most jurisdictions, these rules dictate that overtaking must generally be performed on the left side of the slower-moving vehicle. The driver intending to overtake must first ensure that the maneuver is safe and does not endanger oncoming traffic or other road users. This involves checking mirrors, looking for clear road ahead, and signaling the intention to overtake.
Drivers being overtaken are typically required to maintain their speed and position, and not to accelerate.
