Újpesti

Újpesti is a Hungarian community found in Budapest. The area is situated in the third district and was originally a village outside of the city limits in the late 19th century. It became integrated into the growing city of Budapest during the growth period from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Naming after a village called Újpest, it became known for being a working-class community mainly consisting of residential properties and built-up areas. Újpesti received its city character between 1885-1912 through continued growth and absorption by the city.

In sports, Újpesti is notably known for its association football team Újpest FC, which was established in 1885 and competes in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I (First Hungarian Football League) and has won 26 domestic championships. Established by athletes from various countries, it initially did not have any strict ethnic or nationality requirements. The club played an important part in the history of Hungarian football winning several national and international tournaments. In addition, Újpest is also represented by the Újpesti Torna Club, a sports club and multipurpose training and athletic center.

Újpesti is in north-western Budapest and is comprised of old and new residential buildings. Its climate is temperate and humid with moderate temperatures with variations throughout the year. Its ferroconcrete workers’ settlement houses are all equally quaint in building style but end abruptly in a landscape of glowing brickmade walls and varies through developments produced.The inhabitants are occupied with the trades of engineering, teaching, TV-related works along catering and commercial pursuits as well.
