Örlygsstaðir
Örlygsstaðir is a farm and historical site located in the Skagafjörður region of northern Iceland. It is primarily known for its association with a significant event in Icelandic history, the Battle of Örlygsstaðir, which took place in 1238. This battle was a crucial turning point in the Age of the Sturlungs, a turbulent period marked by feuds and power struggles among prominent Icelandic families. The conflict at Örlygsstaðir pitted the forces of Snorri Sturluson and his nephew T Sturla Þórðarson against those of Kolbeinn Tumason and Sighvatur Sturluson. The outcome of the battle led to the defeat and death of Sighvatur and his son T Sturla, significantly weakening the Sturlung clan's dominance and paving the way for the eventual submission of Iceland to Norwegian rule.
The farm itself is situated in a fertile valley, typical of the agricultural landscape of Skagafjörður. While
