Õismäe

Õismäe is a subdistrict of the Haabersti district in Tallinn, Estonia. It is primarily a residential area known for its large panel apartment buildings constructed during the Soviet era. The development of Õismäe began in the late 1960s and continued through the 1970s, aiming to provide housing for the growing population of Tallinn.

The most distinctive feature of Õismäe is its large, artificial lake, Õismäe Pond, which is situated in the center of the subdistrict. The residential blocks are arranged in a circular pattern around this lake. This unique layout was a deliberate urban planning choice. The area was designed to be a self-contained microdistrict, with schools, shops, and other essential services located within walking distance of the homes.

Õismäe is well-connected to other parts of Tallinn by public transportation, primarily buses. The subdistrict offers a range of amenities including several schools, kindergartens, a library, and commercial centers. Green spaces are also present, with parks and tree-lined streets contributing to the residential character of the area. While predominantly a dormitory district, Õismäe remains a significant part of Tallinn's urban landscape.
