Õhutihedus, also known as air density, is a measure of the mass of air per unit volume. It is an important parameter in various fields such as meteorology, aerodynamics, and environmental science. Air density is influenced by several factors, including temperature, pressure, and humidity. As temperature increases, air molecules gain kinetic energy and spread out, resulting in a decrease in air density. Conversely, as temperature decreases, air molecules slow down and come closer together, leading to an increase in air density. Pressure also affects air density; higher pressure compresses the air molecules, increasing density, while lower pressure allows the molecules to spread out, decreasing density. Humidity, or the amount of water vapor in the air, also plays a role; moist air is less dense than dry air because water vapor molecules are lighter than the nitrogen and oxygen molecules that make up the majority of dry air. The formula for air density is ρ = P / (R_specific * T), where ρ is the air density, P is the pressure, R_specific is the specific gas constant for air, and T is the temperature in Kelvin. Air density is typically measured in kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m³) or grams per liter (g/L). Understanding air density is crucial for predicting weather patterns, designing aircraft, and assessing environmental impacts.
