Ívfények

Ívfények, also known as arc welding or electric arc welding, is a fusion welding process that uses a high-voltage electric arc to create intense heat. This heat melts the base metal and a filler material, if used, forming a molten pool. As the pool cools, it solidifies, creating a strong metallurgical bond. The electric arc is typically generated between an electrode and the workpiece. The electrode can be a consumable material that melts and adds filler metal to the joint, or it can be a non-consumable material, such as tungsten, in which case a separate filler rod is used.

The process requires a power source that can provide a stable electric current, often direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC). Shielding is crucial to protect the molten weld pool from atmospheric contamination, such as oxygen and nitrogen, which can weaken the weld. This shielding can be provided by a flux coating on the electrode, which decomposes to create shielding gases and slag, or by an external gas supply, such as argon or helium, in processes like gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) or gas metal arc welding (GMAW).
