Æðelstans
Æðelstans, also known as Athelstan, was King of the Anglo-Saxons from 925 to 939. He is often considered the first king of all England. Born around 895, he was the son of King Edward the Elder and his first wife, Ecgwynn. Æðelstans succeeded his father upon his death and immediately faced challenges to his authority, particularly from the Norse Kingdom of York.
His reign was marked by significant military achievements. In 927, he captured the Viking Kingdom of York,
Beyond his military prowess, Æðelstans was known for his administrative reforms and his patronage of the church.
