Äänneyhteyksistä
Äänneyhteyksistä, also known as sandhi in linguistics, refers to the phonological processes that occur at the boundaries of words or morphemes. These changes in pronunciation are natural and often unconscious, affecting how sounds are produced when they come into contact with adjacent sounds. There are several types of äänneyhteyksistä. Assimilation is when a sound becomes more like a neighboring sound. For example, a nasal consonant might change its place of articulation to match that of a following consonant. Dissimilation is the opposite, where a sound becomes less like a neighboring sound, which can happen to avoid similar sounds occurring in close proximity. Elision, or deletion, is the omission of a sound, often a vowel or consonant, in a word or at the boundary between words, making pronunciation smoother or faster. Epenthesis is the insertion of a sound, typically a vowel or consonant, into a word or between words, which can occur to facilitate pronunciation or for stylistic reasons. These phenomena are a fundamental aspect of spoken language, contributing to the fluency and natural rhythm of speech. They are studied in phonology and phonetics to understand the systematic variations in sound production across different languages and dialects.
