Ääniväri, often translated as timbre or tone color, is a fundamental perceptual quality of sound. It refers to the characteristic sound of a voice or instrument that distinguishes it from others, even when producing the same pitch and loudness. This distinction arises from the complex mix of harmonics and overtones present in a sound wave, in addition to the fundamental frequency.
