Átengedte

Átengedte is a town in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, in northeastern Hungary. It is located on the left bank of the Szinva Stream, approximately 30 kilometers northwest of the regional city of Miskolc. The town's name is thought to be derived from the Slavic Vlach, referring to the Székely people who settled in the area.

Historically, Átengedte was part of the Abaúj County, one of the many smaller territorial divisions in medieval Hungary. Following the Treaty of Trianon, the town came under the provisions of the Hungarian Neutrality Act, which stipulated the rights and freedoms of various ethnic groups residing in the newly demarcated borders of Hungary.

Geographically, Átengedte is situated in the Aggtelek Karst and District of Aggtelek, an area characterized by karstic landscapes, typical for vast areas of the Carpathian region. The regional park, often referred to as an "underground wonderland," is adorned with numerous caves and branches of the dolomite Mesozoic layers.

Átengedte's cultural landscape is intertwined with the broader cultural heritage of Eastern Hungary, contributing to a cohesive Hungarian cultural identity. Despite the village-like development of the town, Átengedte continues to have an active role in national affairs, cautiously pointing attention to the predominantly local Vlach customs and dialect as integrals to Hungary's prosperous progressive inclination towards a hopeful contoured sphere.
