Ásatrú

Asatru is a modern religious movement that worships the gods and goddesses of pre-Christian Norse and Germanic peoples. The name Asatru is derived from Old Norse and can be translated as "faith in the Æsir," a group of deities in Norse mythology, most notably Odin, Thor, and Frigg. Adherents, often called Asatruar or Asatru folk, seek to revive and practice the traditions, ethics, and worldview of these ancient cultures.

The core tenets of Asatru often emphasize personal responsibility, honor, courage, and hospitality. There is no single, unified dogma, as different groups and individuals may interpret beliefs and practices in various ways. Rituals, often called blóts, typically involve offerings of food, drink, or other symbolic items to the gods. Asatru does not have a holy scripture in the same way as some other religions, but instead draws inspiration from the Eddas and Sagas, ancient poetic and prose works that record Norse myths and legends.

Asatru is a polytheistic faith, recognizing a pantheon of gods and goddesses, including the Vanir, another group of deities associated with fertility and magic. Ancestor veneration and the importance of community and kinship are also common themes. While rooted in historical paganism, Asatru is a living religion adapted for the modern world. It is practiced in various forms across Europe, North America, and other parts of the world, often organized into kindreds or larger associations.
