Általánítások, often translated as generalizations, are fundamental concepts in various fields, including linguistics, computer science, and logic. In essence, an általánítás involves identifying common properties or characteristics shared by a group of individual items, concepts, or phenomena and then creating a broader category or rule that encompasses them. This process simplifies complexity by abstracting away specific details to focus on underlying patterns.

In linguistics, generalization is crucial for language acquisition and evolution. Children learn to speak by generalizing grammatical rules from the examples they hear, sometimes leading to overgeneralization where they apply a rule too broadly (e.g., saying "goed" instead of "went"). In computer science, generalization is key to creating reusable code, algorithms, and data structures. For instance, a function designed to sort a list of numbers can be generalized to sort any comparable data type. In logic and philosophy, generalizations are used to form universal statements or theories that apply to a wide range of cases. However, generalizations can also be problematic if they are too broad, inaccurate, or lead to stereotyping when applied to social groups. Critical evaluation is often necessary to determine the validity and scope of any given generalization.
